Casa Turrent
The Turrent family, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V., are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry, with a legacy dating back to 1880. They produce some of Mexico’s finest cigars but also stands as the country’s largest grower of cigar tobacco. The San Andrés Maduro leaf they cultivate near Veracruz is world-renowned for its quality, and various tobaccos from their fields are key components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.
To ensure the consistency of their flagship Casa Turrent line, they decided that a large factory was not the ideal setting for crafting the more complex Casa series. Instead, they renovated a legacy family house into a boutique factory staffed by just 15 people dedicated to producing the Casa Turrent Series. In 2014 Alberto Turrent was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Cigar Journal.
